Dublin SPCA (Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) rescue and care for many sick, injured and cruelly treated and neglected horses and donkeys at the shelter in Rathfarnham.

Holly's Horse Haven aim to provide a caring, positive environment for those horses that have either been neglected, abused, abandoned or at risk of going to slaughter.

Irish Horse Welfare Trust are involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of horses and ponies. Working from the Equine Welfare Centre in Wicklow the IHWT also offer a re-training and rehoming programme for ex-racehorses.

The Donkey Sanctuary has a dedicated team throughout Ireland and the UK who investigate reports of cruelty to donkeys. The sanctuary in Cork is home to many such rescue cases.
