Well done to this little hero, Mr. Jones, who represented the ISPCA for the Helping Hooves Award 2011.

A big congratulations to everyone involved with this little hero, Mr. Jones, who represented the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for the Helping Hooves Award 2011. This wee guy won the people's hearts and galloped away with the voting. His story, submitted by Louise Mitchell in Co. Clare, not only won him the title but also a prize fund of €1,000 for the charity.

The purpose of this award is to highlight the great work of every charity involved in equine rescue in Ireland and help raise much needed funds for these organisations who continuously struggle during these hard times. We hope to encourage others with a love and compassion for horses to contribute and help fundraise for horses in need.

As the first competition of its kind in Ireland, the entries included several horses representing the ISPCA, DublinSPCA, Irish Horse Welfare Trust, Holly's Horse Haven and The Donkey Sanctuary. These charities need the continued support of our equestrian community to help stop neglect and cruelty of equine. As we aim to secure significant sponsorship for next year's award and raise a prize fund whereby every charity entered in the competition may benefit, we need some big companies on board to help us achieve our goal so please spread the word!

Must also say a big thank you to everyone who took the time to register and vote for their favourite rescue and of course a huge thank you to those involved in such fantastic work helping these horses, ponies and donkeys in need; providing the care, attention, commitment and devotion to these rescues. The horses rely on you and if they could speak we're sure they would be delighted to be a part of this competition whereby they can lend a helping hoof in return!
