Measure Height of Horses - Convert Hands to Centimetres
A horse stands higher than 14.2hh (hands high) at the withers and a pony is up to and including 14.2hh. A hand measures 4 inches, the measurement deriving from the time when a horse's height was guaged by using the span of a man's hand (average being 4inches). The measurement is taken from ground level to the highest point on the horse's withers ie. the highest part of the back at the base of the neck.
